LANSING – State Representative Dan Scripps (D-Leland) is offering a free DVD copy of "Lest We Forget: Veterans Monuments at the State Capitol," a documentary detailing the history and story of the memorials in and around Michigan's Capitol building that honor our Michigan military heroes.
"As we honor our heroes this Veterans Day, we should look back on the sacrifices made on our behalf and honor the men and women who defended our freedom so bravely," Scripps said. "I hope that providing this documentary will teach our proud Michigan history and give people a deeper appreciation of our veterans. Part of honoring our veterans is carrying on their stories, and that's why I'm glad to offer this documentary to help do that."
Scripps is inviting schools, churches, veterans groups and nonprofit organizations to request a copy of the 26-minute documentary from his office. He encourages schools to use the documentary to prompt discussions of Michigan history, our state's contribution to our armed forces, as well as foster appreciation of veterans. Requests can be made by calling (888) MICH-101, or by sending an e-mail to DanScripps@house.mi.gov.
Scripps also encourages veterans organizations, schools and church groups planning to visit Lansing to contact his office in order to arrange a visit to the Capitol and a tour of the veterans monuments.
