LANSING – State Representative Dan Scripps (D-Leland) has voted to speed up funding for several Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund (MNRTF) projects that will promote recreational development in the community and help to preserve the natural beauty of our state.
"We have a special way of life here in Northwest Michigan, and I am committed to protecting it," said Scripps, who worked for the Leelanau Conservancy prior to serving as State Representative. "These projects will go a long way toward preserving Michigan's great open spaces. By being effective stewards of the land, we can protect our natural resources and leave them in pristine condition for our children to enjoy."
Local communities across the state will receive more than $48.5 million from the MNRTF for development projects and to acquire land. The MNRTF provides a source of funding for the public acquisition of land for resource protection and public outdoor recreation. These projects had been announced in November, but the action taken by the House this week will accelerate the process in order to get the funds to these communities faster.
Benzie and Mason counties will receive the following MNRTF funding:
- $478,100 for land acquisition at Ann Lakefront Park in Benzie County
- $1.15 million for land acquisition at South Elberta Dunes Natural Area in Benzie County
- $125,300 for improvements to the Stearns Park Breakwall in Mason County
